Aspire Health, Nation’s Largest Community-Based Palliative Care Provider, Expands to Nine Additional States

Aspire Closes $32 Million Funding Round Led by GV; Now Cares for Patients Facing a Serious Illness in 19 States and the District of Columbia

Nashville, TN – Aspire Health, the nation’s largest provider of non-hospice community-based palliative care, has expanded to nine additional states and recently closed a $32 million funding round led by GV (formerly Google Ventures) to support the company’s continued growth and expansion. To date, Aspire has cared for over 15,000 patients facing a serious illness and is providing over 100,000 home-based palliative care visits annually. Aspire now serves patients in 19 states and the District of Columbia.

“Today, patients facing a serious illness often receive care that is uncoordinated, unnecessary and too often not aligned with their goals and values,” said Bill Frist, Aspire Health Co-Founder and Chairman and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader. “Aspire’s specialized physician practices provide patients with an extra layer of support that helps improve their quality of life and allows them to stay at home, where the vast majority of individuals prefer to be.”

Aspire Health’s specialized physician practices are led by palliative care physicians and employ an interdisciplinary team of specially trained physicians, advanced practice nurses, social workers, nurses and chaplains. Aspire’s clinicians are experts in providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness, guiding patients and caregivers through difficult and complex treatment choices, and providing emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families. Aspire’s physicians and advanced practice nurses are available to patients 24/7.

“Improving the quality of life for patients facing a serious illness is one of the biggest opportunities we have to improve our nation’s healthcare system,” said Ben Robbins, a Venture Partner at GV. “We are excited to partner with Aspire as they continue to expand access to palliative care to patients across the country.”

Aspire’s new funding will not only allow Aspire to continue expanding its services geographically, but will also allow Aspire to continue refining its clinical intervention. “We are very excited to have GV, one of the most innovative organizations in the country, as a new investor,” said Brad Smith, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Aspire Health. “Their investment will allow Aspire to continue improving the way we care for our patients, including enriching our use of innovative data analytics and technology to enhance the support our clinicians can provide patients at home.”

Aspire serves patients in partnerships with four of the nation’s five largest health plans as well as a number of regional and local health plans. Since June 2016, Aspire has begun serving patients in nine new states: Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Virginia. These states are in addition to the geographic areas Aspire was serving prior to June 2016: Alabama, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.
